Path Tracing Study
I worked on a C++ path tracer as part of university graphics coursework, exploring how sampling and scene materials showed up in the rendered image.
University coursework. Rendering implementation within a supplied C++ framework.
The renderer made light transport visible a sample at a time, and I worked through the assignment's scene and tracing code while using the rendered images to inspect what the implementation was doing, with the material and light code determining how each traced path contributed to the eventual pixel value.
I completed the listed coursework stages and added a sampling approach that stepped through an image grid, which gave another way to organise the samples alongside the existing random method.
The preserved render uses a small enclosed scene with coloured walls and curved objects, where indirect lighting and material differences can be seen without needing a complicated model to explain them.
The catalogue date follows the first preserved commit on 19 May 2024.
Outcome
A completed rendering assignment with source and sample images. The additional grid sampling method is recorded separately from the supplied graphics framework.
