When AGI Comes

AGI will come silently. You’ll wake up and see 5 YouTube videos mentioning that AGI has shocked the world, and you’ll be shocked. You’ll read the technical details and blog posts, until you fully comprehend the magnitude of what has been made. Boy if the 80s could see us now. There’s no public release date yet, just a series of public demos. When AGI comes do you really think they’ll give a shit about you? They have the smartest entity we’ve known, at their fingertips, and you think they’ll release it… to you? Each company will make their ‘prize’ app. Think of a program idea? Made. Want to use AGI? Fuck off. They would NEVER give it to you. And of COURSE it’s a scaling problem. Perhaps the Fermi paradox is resolved by allowing monopolies to thrive. No open source project will ever be given the CHANCE to work on this scale. Unless… ~thinks for ages~ — no this isn’t a distributed computing problem. You can’t use TOR or torrenting as precedent for thinking we could overcome scaling. We will only see the upsides once AGI is here. Thats all we’ll be able to. Governments and companies will be slow to react, something has to be done. I wonder if this is a moment a time traveller would come back to stop. All this writing and I still don’t believe in AGI any more. Why is like Santa to me. We must run into a barrier at some point right? Right? I also need to stop thinking I should stop using AI for things, it will only get me ahead. Web development has been closed as an option. Software development is next. Singing, acting, artists will be after. There will be resistance to all of these though. That change that the people with the models are also the ones with the profit incentive.
