# Otto

Otto is a voice and text assistant for the Mac. I developed it from the voice-os project, moving the app into Swift and adding capability and session-learning work.

Development of a fork of per-simmons/voice-os. Swift migration, interface and learning integration.

I started from voice-os and worked towards a native Mac app, with the voice connection, action handling and interface held in Swift instead of relying on the earlier Python process, with the native engine holding the connection and action state that the interface needed to show.

The app kept a capability index and session logs, and retrospective processing could add useful phrasings or proposed capabilities from a completed session, with a local Ollama option for that learning step.

Hotkeys, onboarding and settings made it usable as a menu-bar application, and the June releases packaged the Swift app alongside tests for the capability and session components.

The catalogue date follows the first preserved release on 20 June 2026.

## Outcome

Packaged Mac releases with a native Swift implementation and session-based capability work. The entry credits the upstream project and distinguishes my changes from its starting point.
