# Lumen

Lumen connects an Obsidian vault to a local research backend, surfacing related notes and assembling reports whose citations are checked against the vault.

Independent plugin and backend development. TypeScript, Python and local model inference.

I worked on Lumen as a way of finding material already sitting in a vault, and the same retrieval system could surface related notes during ordinary writing or feed a longer research request, with the original note blocks kept available as sources when related material was assembled into a report.

The Obsidian plugin talked to a Python orchestrator, with separate packages for ingestion, retrieval, inference and memory, while a local model produced the research output and streamed progress back to the interface.

Citation handling checked references against actual note blocks, and the project included evaluation and release tooling, though a valid source reference still needs to be read alongside the claim it is attached to.

The catalogue date follows the first preserved release on 16 May 2026.

## Outcome

A released local research plugin and backend, with note surfacing, report generation and source-block checks. GitHub preserves the plugin packages and evaluation code.
